Talk about a New York sports weekend…

September 24th, 2007

Wow, this weekend has been great as a fan of a bunch of New York sports teams. With the exception of a Red Sox comeback win the other night at TB and a 14 inning loss from the Yanks to Toronto on Friday, this weekend has been great.

First of all, the Yankees are back within 1.5 games of first place in the AL East and after today, could be as little as 1 game back since the Sox don’t play today. It won’t be easy, as AJ Burnett is a good pitcher, but hopefully the bats can come alive and keep the Yankees afloat in the division race as it’s in the 6th and they are down 4-0. 10 in a row would be nice though…

Second of all, Syracuse beat #18 Louisville 38-35 in a major road upset. I don’t even know how this happened, considering how bad our team has been all year, and when I say bad, I mean absolutely pathetic. Last week, we were truly the joke of the NCAA and now, we have “potential.” Well, having potential and actually winning are definitely two different things, and I won’t believe it until it happens. Of course with an upset like this, people (mostly mainsteam media) are going to be jumping all over the bandwagon, saying they always knew we could win, etc. But the team will more importantly gain confidence, which can truly change the outcome of the season. With a difficult schedule ahead for the Orange, I can’t really imagine us winning many games, but hopefully I will be surprised come season’s end.

Third of all, the Giants pulled out a victory yesterday in Washington… which was much needed. The defense played very well including a goal line stance at the end of the game. The offense was VERY shaky despite the statistics, but had a surge in the second half that propelled the team to win the game. As with Cuse, I’m not holding my breath, but I can definitely say that I am relieved to know that I won’t see Big Blue go 0-16 this year.

Fourth of all, I went to the Turning Stone PGA Tournament event this weekend, and I have to say that the course is ridiculous. It is such a nice place for a tournament like this, and hopefully the crowd will continue to come out because it’d be a shame to lose this tournament.  We lost one in Endicott (kind of to Turning Stone actually), and it would suck to lose one here as well.

Last but not least, this is for the Cubs fans.  Genius.  The Cubs think they can win under their Lou Piniella, ella, ella, ay, ay ay….

Clemens Suspended For 5 Games? GARBAGE…

August 9th, 2007

Well over the summer I hadn’t really felt the need to rant about anything, but after seeing Roger Clemens get suspended for 5 games, I figured I should. Clemens retaliated because the Blue Jays intentionally threw at A-Rod’s knee TWICE… the first time the pitcher couldn’t even hit him (nice accuracy), and the second time, Josh Towers thought he was tough… and then made fun of Tony Pena for being pissed off. By the way, Josh Towers is 5-9 with an ERA of 5.36… so basically, he isn’t good.

First of all, let it be known that I am not a Roger Clemens fan. He’s on the Yankees and I want him to win, but I do not like him at all. I think the way he goes about his business is very arrogant and tasteless, but I guess this is not the time and the place for that. But when your star player is thrown at intentionally TWICE, you need to retaliate. You can’t allow your teammates to think that you don’t have their backs. I was hoping Clemens would hit Rios earlier and right in the face (reminds me of Piazza) but I knew it wouldn’t happen… he pitched a 2 hit game through 6 and helped to give them a relatively easy win with the score 9-2. What he did was necessary and he shouldn’t be punished for it.

I understand that the umpires didn’t want a brawl and didn’t want the game to really get out of hand, and the ejection of him and Torre was fine, in my opinion. But the suspension was not. Josh Towers should have been suspended if the league was paying any attention to what was done the night before… you don’t happen to just throw at a player’s knee twice by accident, especially when it is known that the entire team hates him all because their infielder couldn’t catch a fly ball as he yelled “HA!” when he ran by. Maybe he shouldn’t have said that, but most likely a major league player shouldn’t be affected by that and should catch a routine fly ball. Blame yourselves for that, Toronto. I won’t even get started on Gibbons either, he’s an idiot and I don’t really feel like bashing him tonight.

Ah well, enough writing for me… I write enough at school and don’t really know why I even continue this blog sometimes, but I figure I can rant about stuff that pisses me off and is absolute BS… like this for instance.

Go Yanks, the division is still within reach…
